چکیده

• Computational nonlinear homogenization of refractory masonry is performed. Effects joints closure/reopening on the mechanical behavior are considered. Computationally efficient homogenized elastic-viscoplastic model developed. Dry close and reopen due to cyclic loading unloading. The response orthotropic nonlinear. Refractory with dry widely used in steel-making industry for linings several high-temperature components (>1500 ? C) including steel ladles furnaces. To properly optimize design performance these linings, thorough numerical models that consider presence joints, closure reopening behaviour (creep stress relaxation) refractories at high temperature required. present study reports formulation, implementation, application a multi-scale simulation joints. bricks considered exhibit linear elasticity as well rate-dependent plasticity. Four joint patterns predefined based state bed head each pattern determined using finite element approach. transition criteria between four defined terms macroscopic stresses strains. Verification developed constitutive laws carried out by comparing results detailed micro (brick considered) homogeneous equivalent material models. Furthermore, comparisons experimental walls subjected biaxial compression load room out. Good agreements obtained. Then, validated employed predict structures different conditions. able simulate orthotropic, compressible, mortarless structures, accounts

Effective Elastic Stiffness for Periodic Masonry Structures via Eigenstrain Homogenization

The equivalent periodic eigenstrain method is used to evaluate the effective elastic stiffness of periodic masonry structure. An Eshelby tensor, for a unit cell of the periodic masonry structure, is derived analytically, and is combined with a strain energy approach to formulate the effective stiffness of the masonry. The new homogenization scheme is simple, one step, and closed form. The model...

Computational homogenization of non-stationary transport processes in masonry structures

A fully coupled transient heat and moisture transport in a masonry structure is examined in this paper. Supported by several successful applications in civil engineering the nonlinear diffusion model proposed by Künzel [1] is adopted in the present study. A strong material heterogeneity together with a significant dependence of the model parameters on initial conditions as well as the gradients...

Homogenization of Interlocking Masonry Walls

In a previous publication the authors proposed a continuous model for describing the mechanical behaviour of ‘Running Bond’ masonry walls. Here a different masonry structure is considered. This structure is ‘bi-atomic’ in the sense that its pattern consists in two kind of blocks with different. The homogenization by differential expansions technique is used for obtaining an equivalent Cosserat ...

Regularization of first order computational homogenization for multiscale analysis of masonry structures

This paper investigates the possibility of using classical first order computational homogenization together with a simple regularization procedure based on the fracture energy of the micro-scale-constituents. A generalized geometrical characteristic length takes into account the size of the macro-scale element as well as the size of the RVE (and its constituents). The proposed regularization e...

Homogenization of Elastic Media with Gaseous Inclusions

We study the asymptotic behavior of a system modeling a composite material made of an elastic periodically perforated support, with period ε > 0, and a perfect gas placed in each of these perforations, as ε goes to zero. The model we use is linear corresponding to deformations around a reference configuration. We apply both two-scale asymptotic expansion and two-scale convergence methods in ord...
